Interview: 4 Questions for LBG Gwap

1. The Album title:"Lover Boy" usually carries a very specific, polished connotation in modern rap—what did that title mean to you personally when you sat down to build this tracklist?

LGB Gwap-Basically when I made the title Lover Boy I just felt like I was just on some on some lover boy shit. Like half majority of the world be on some baby dog and shit. I'd be on some lovable and shit. You know?

2. On vulnerable writing: Tracks like "Missin My Btch" and "Remember Me" step right into messy relationship territory. How hard is it to be direct about your personal life on a beat versus writing traditional street records?

LGB Gwap-I don't really think it's hard to speak about my personal life on on a beat versus writing street records on a beat. I feel like it's all therapeutic when I'm writing about my problems. Or whether I'm just doing it for fun. I I feel like it's just all therapeutic. You know?

3.On sonic pacing: Most of the tracks clock in right around the two-minute mark before expanding out on "Figure It Out." How intentional was that pacing, and how do you know when a record has said everything it needs to say?

LGB Gwap-I ain't going to lie. I'mma figure it out bro. We just basically we really freestyle that whole song. So the engineer picked the beat for us. Goddamn me. We freaked out the whole song. So that wasn't really like that wasn't planned. It just happened like that. Like wasn't really playing for real.

4. On dual-part records: You chose to close out the tape with "Mhm/ She Say Pt2." What made you want to link those two ideas into one closing statement instead of giving them separate tracks?

LGB Gwap-And what made me want to close out the table? Mhm. It was just like shit. I felt like there was just like the like the like the closure, the tape, like Like I started out with some term shit. You know what I'm saying? I went down. Went down in my feelings type shit. You know what I'm saying? So that's just all that was. It was just some real sentimental shit just so you like I be really on some little boy shit you know.
